Hidden in a corner of the always busy and packed Ferry Building, Daniel Patterson and Lauren Kiino's Il Cane Rosso is a spectacular mix of comfort food, creative culinary cuisine and everything the building has to offer. A mix of soups and salads, sandwiches and rotisserie chicken, blended in with wonderful sides that complement each dish, the restaurant is perfect for a sit down meal or those looking for food on the go.

Warm Egg Salad Sandwich |
While Patterson’s other restaurant, Coi is known for it’s innovative dishes, Il Cane Rosso has more of a homey, neighborhood feel, even if it’s in the Ferry Building. Items like garlic potatoes, baked beans and polenta are all made with the freshest ingredients. One of the real stars on the lunch menu is the Warm Egg Salad Sandwich. It is like no other egg salad sandwich I have ever had before. While the eggs may look scrambled, they taste like a mix of scrambled and hard-boiled, just off the stove. The melted provolone cheese and unbelievable bread are all part of this mouthwatering delight. It is the perfect meal for $9.00, a great mix of breakfast and lunch, all wrapped up in one sandwich.
Another in the rotating lists of sandwiches is the Porchetta. It's got a great mix of flavors, filled with pickled cabbage and a housemade dijon mustard that is out of this world. Just a really great sandwich.

The menu is filled with other great options if you aren't feeling a sandwich. They have a number of different salads, usually one or two soups, additional sides and even a rotisserie chicken. They also are open for dinner every night, with a three-course meal for $25. Seating is fairly limited, especially on busy days like Thursday and Saturday (Farmer's Market at Ferry Building). But if you're lucky, you can grab your food to go, grab a bench on the pier and enjoy the beautiful views of the bay while you enjoy your wonderful meal.
